3. Max Scherzer, starting pitcher, Washington Nationals

Max Scherzer will be a free agent next season and will turn 37-years-old shortly after the trade deadline. Furthermore, the Washington Nationals are all but out of any playoff race and should look to sell a piece they will surely lose in free agency anyways.

All of that should keep the price fairly low for Scherzer which is exactly what the Brewers need. In 17 starts this season, he’s thrown 98 innings and has an impressive 2.66 ERA. He’s done a tremendous job of keeping batters off the bases and even has one complete game under his belt.

Although the Brewers already have an excellent threesome in Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff, and Fredd Peralta, you can never use enough pitching. Adding Scherzer to their rotation would not only give them four great pitchers in the regular season, but also allow them to dominate any playoff series.
