Outfielders

Christian Yelich – B

It’s hard to believe that someone with nearly a .400 OBP could be labeled as a disappointment so far, but that has been Christian Yelich in 2021. Although Yelich is reaching base at a good clip, almost all of Yelich’s power has been sapped. Yelich has only hit 5 home runs and has a what would be career-low .369 slugging percentage.

On top of that, Yelich has struck out 27.7% of his plate appearances. Some of this is not Yelich’s fault, as he has dealt with back issues throughout the year and still may be mentally recovering from the broken kneecap he suffered in 2019.

Jackie Bradley Jr. – F

It has been a very tough season for Jackie Bradley Jr. thus far. After signing a two-year, $24 million contract, Bradley Jr. has been a black hole at the plate, with splits of .167/.252/.280. Although he has been a plus defender, his glove does not save him from having a negative WAR thus far.

Tyrone Taylor – B-

Tyrone Taylor has filled into the Milwaukee Brewers outfield nicely when called upon. Taylor is hitting similarly to his 2020 season, as he brings a .743 OPS into the All-Star break. Taylor has also been used throughout the outfield, allowing manager Craig Counsell to be creative with lineups.

Lorenzo Cain – C

As Lorenzo Cain enters the tail end of his career, the numbers continue to fall, and his health becomes a bigger factor. Cain has had a hard time staying on the field due to a hamstring injury, but when he has, he’s posted a slash line of .223/.322/.350. Hopefully, Cain can stay healthy after the All-Star break.
