After earning their second consecutive NFC Championship birth, the Green Bay Packers‘ offseason was supposed to be focused on retaining key players such as Aaron Jones, Kevin King, and Corey Linsley. While they were able to re-sign the former two, a new drama arose: Aaron Rodgers wanting out of Titletown.

After the Packers kept Jones and King, all seemed well heading into the 2021 NFL Draft. That’s when Adam Schefter dropped a bombshell on the world when he announced Rodgers is “so disgruntled with theGreen Bay Packers that he has told some within the organization that he does not want to return to the team.” And just like that their offseason took a complete 180.

Rumors began swirling about whether Green Bay would trade Rodgers during the draft with multiple reports coming out of Denver that the two teams were very close to a done deal. That never came to fruition and the Packers have apparently been staunch in their stance they aren’t trading the reigning MVP.

Green Bay Packers’ MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers continues to sow doubt about whether he’ll return to the team this season.

In public, Matt LaFleur and Brian Gutekunst have been saying all the right things. They know they need Rodgers to win in 2021. Heck, their whole team is set up to win now, as they’ve mortgaged their financial future to do so. Without Rodgers that game plan is futile. Mark Murphy, on the other hand, has had some odd comments to the media that may have hurt the relationship even further.

When Rodgers has spoken, which has been far and few in between, he’s been cryptic. He’s talked about how much he likes his teammates and coaching staff, while also saying the organization forgets it’s the people who make them special.

He followed that talk up by missing the Packers’ mandatory minicamp earlier this summer–an act that could cost him $50,000 per day if Green Bay chose to fine him for those. The next milestone is training camp which begins in about three weeks.

Most recently, Rodgers sowed doubt about whether he’ll return to the Packers at all. During a golfing event on Tuesday, Rodgers was asked about his future and responded with, “I don’t know. We’ll see. We’ll see, won’t we.” He was then asked about playing in the season opener on September 12th and again replied, “Yeah, I don’t know. We’ll see.”

The longer this drags out into the summer the more doubt Packers’ fans should have about his return to the team. The start of training camp will give us some important information. However, with Matt LaFleur returning for his third year and just about everyone on the offense coming back, Rodgers may feel like he can continue to impress his point by missing some camp time. Only time will tell and soon enough, time won’t be on Green Bay’s side.
