Tier 3: Christian Ringo and Kennard Backman

This final tier is the two other players taken by the Packers behind Ripkowski in the 6th round. Ringo was selected just four picks after Ripkowski at 210 but never really found his footing in the NFL. He played in eight games in Green Bay in 2016 but made just two tackles. One of them was for a loss, and he did force a fumble, so his presence wasn’t a complete wash. He ended up playing for five teams, and three years after he was drafted, he finally got his first NFL sack in 2018.

Kennard Backman was the final pick in this awful draft for Green Bay. He was a tight end who never made the 53-man roster and bounced around a few practice squads, including the New England Patriots and Detroit Lions, before being cut and out of the league for good in 2017.

This draft was really one of the biggest organizational failures in recent Green Bay Packers memory. They didn’t get the full four years of a rookie contract out of anyone and didn’t get much value back for the few they traded. Some drafts that have high picks bust have late-round gems that redeem it. In this one, it had a very linear downward progression with each pick, which is what you would expect, but it didn’t start very high with Randall, and it is the worst class of the last 10 years by a considerable margin.

It only goes up from here, however, and every class from now on has at least one Pro Bowl player, so be sure to be on the lookout for number nine coming soon.
