Green Bay Packers wide receiver Juwann Winfree (88) participates in minicamp practice Wednesday, June 9, 2021, in Green Bay, Wis.Cent02 7g5lnhcpwf5144uzx71c Original /

WR Juwann Winfree

Winfree was a sixth-round pick by the Denver Broncos in 2019 but saw just 10 total offensive snaps with them that season and no targets. He then spent most of 2020 of the Green Bay Packers practice squad, taking four regular-season snaps, but again, with no targets.

When it comes to the receiver position, we know that four of the roster spots are accounted for, but one or even two are open, depending on how many Matt LaFleur decides to carry—for reference, Green Bay carried five on last year’s initial 53-man.

Winfree was one of those players that really came out of nowhere during mini-camp. He was a part of two big touchdown passes, one a 50-yarder from Kurt Benkert and the other a 30-yard pass from Jordan Love on a corner route. Matt Schneidman of The Athletic would mention that Winfree “stood out on offense,” while Rob Demovsky of ESPN would go on to say that Winfree “found ways to get open often.”

Of course, I need to add the caveat that this was only mini-camp, and Winfree, like the rest of these players, will need to show his value on special teams as well. However, with a roster spot or two available at the receiver position, at a minimum, he’s someone who we should be keeping our eyes on once training camp begins.
