Packers’ veteran who might not make the roster 3. Oren Burks

Oren Burks is part of an alarming group of early-round draft picks that haven’t panned out for general manager Brian Gutekunst. Taken in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Burks was asked to make the transition from safety to inside linebacker. The thought was his athleticism would allow him to fly around the field and give Green Bay an advantage at the position.

However, Burks has never figured out how to thrive at inside linebacker and was moved to the edge last season. Unfortunately, he struggled even more there and finished with a measly PFF grade of 28.6.

The Packers would only save $945,000 if they cut him so this wouldn’t necessarily be a cap-saving move. However, if Burks can’t prove his special team’s contributions are enough to keep him on the roster, he could be waived when cuts come.
