Devin Funchess

Keeping with the theme so far, do we have any idea what we can expect from Devin Funchess? The former second-round pick had his breakout season with Carolina in 2017, posting 840 receiving yards and eight touchdowns–a very nice season, a year like that doesn’t happen by mistake. The following year, Funchess’ production would take a step back as he recorded 549 yards with four touchdowns. But since then, we haven’t really seen much of him on the football field.

In 2019 with the Colts, Funchess would get hurt Week 1, missing the entire year, and then he would opt out of the 2020 season–so when Week 1 of this season arrives, it will have been about two years since Funchess has seen a regular-season snap.

Listed at 6’4″ – 225 pounds, Funchess is another big-bodied receiver who uses that frame to create space along with his refined route running. He can line up out wide or in the slot, and the combination of him and Aaron Rodgers could form a very nice red zone duo.

However, with the top-4 receiver spots likely locked up, Funchess will be competing for the WR5 role with Equanimeous St. Brown and Malik Taylor. On top of that, as I alluded to above, after missing two years, there is no guarantee that Funchess finds that old form, and undoubtedly there will have to be some rust shaken off–I wouldn’t call him a lock to make the roster either.
