Dairyland Express is running a series this offseason where we make bold predictions for all of the Green Bay Packers who are projected to play a major role on the field in the upcoming 2021 season. First, it was running backs Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon and now we are moving to stud wide receiver Davante Adams.

Adams had a monster 2020 campaign that earned him recognition as one of the best wide receivers in the game. He hauled in 115 receptions (tied for second in the NFL) for 1374 yards (tied for fifth) and 18 touchdown receptions (first). It’s safe to say he was the only consistent wide receiver Aaron Rodgers trusted on the roster.

Adams will continue to have massive defensive attention sent his way and the Packers must continue to find ways to feed him the ball. Head coach Matt LaFleur has been vocal about getting one of his best playmakers the rock as often as possible and that should continue in the upcoming season.

The Green Bay Packers expect a strong encore season from Davante Adams. Let’s make three bold predictions for his 2021 campaign.

3. He has fewer than 1300 receiving yards

For the second time in his career, Adams accrued more than 1300 receiving yards in 2020 (it was also only the second time he’s amassed more than 1000). Perhaps, the most amazing aspect is that he did it in only 14 games. I expect him to put up big numbers once again this season, but I think it will be difficult for him to replicate those same massive stats.

For one, the defense is going to continue to key in on Adams and force Rodgers to go elsewhere with the ball. Rodgers and the Packers will definitely work to get Adams the ball as often as possible, but defenses will be successful in slowing him down. Secondly, Green Bay’s other weapons will step up and improve their game. Allen Lazard and Marquez Valdes-Scantling are on the verge of breakout seasons and Jones and Dillon will continue to command attention in the offense.  The ball and stats will be a bit more spread out this year which will decrease Adams’ counting stats.

2. He starts 16 games for the first time in his career

Adams has experienced a number of small injuries throughout his career, only playing 16 games twice in his career (the last time came in 2016) and never starting all 16. However, I predict he’ll stay healthy this year with a full training camp and preseason experience to get his body ready. Also, the NFL is moving to 17 games which will give him a one-game cushion to achieve this feat.

Next. Packers: 3 UDFA who could make roster push. dark

1. He signs a contract extension

Adams recently went on The Herd with Colin Cowherd and said the Rodgers’ situation will influence his decision about re-signing with the Packers (duh). He said he backs his guys and he’d have to think more if the Rodgers issue doesn’t come to a pro Packers’ resolution. Although that may be shocking on the surface, life can be scary for a receiver when you don’t have an elite quarterback throwing to you as Adams has his entire career. Still, money talks at the end of the day and I expect Green Bay to throw a lot of it at their only consistent and proven receiver.
