Address QB, LB, or IDL

Gutekunst told us after the draft that they were going to explore veteran options at quarterback and linebacker, and while they’re at it, the Green Bay Packers should take a look at an interior defensive lineman as well.

Quarterback

Regardless of the relationship between the Green Bay Packers and Rodgers, this was always going to take place; they only have two quarterbacks on the roster at the moment. There is just no way that any NFL team is going to head into training camp with only two quarterbacks. Then there is the value and potential impact that having another veteran on the practice field and in the film room can have on Jordan Love–and in the end, getting Love ready to play — whenever that may be — is the ultimate goal.

Linebacker

Gutekunst mentioned that the Packers were looking to address linebacker early on in the draft, but the board just didn’t fall their way in that regard. I do believe that they are perfectly fine heading into the new season with Kamal Martin and Krys Barnes as their top linebackers, but both missed time last year with injuries while Oren Burks, Ty Summers, and Isaiah McDuffie are primarily special teams players. Green Bay could certainly use more depth.

Interior Defensive Lineman

This is not a position that Gutey brought up, but I still think it’s worth looking into. This was a very thin group before the draft, and while they added TJ Slaton, at this point in his career, he’s still not someone that Green Bay should be relying on heavily. That pretty much leaves the Packers where they started–with a thin IDL group.

Tyler Lancaster is limited, Dean Lowry needs less playing time, not more, Anthony Rush, Willington Previlon, and Delontae Scott were practice squad players, and hopefully, Kingsley Keke takes a big step forward.
