Despite ESPN’s Adam Schefter reporting on Thursday that the Green Bay Packers are in the market for a veteran quarterback in free agency, that isn’t really news. General manager Brian Gutekunst himself confirmed the team would be adding a quarterback or two for offseason activities and training camp.

Green Bay only has two quarterbacks currently on their roster–Jordan Love and Aaron Rodgers–and were always going to add at least another body or two. It’s unrealistic to expect both of those players to take all the reps in offseason activities.

Who the Packers add will be the biggest question. It’s most likely they target a couple of young, unproven guys who are looking to make a name for themselves in the NFL. These guys would come with unguaranteed contracts and wouldn’t mess up the Packers’ currently messy salary cap situation. However, if they venture their toe into the veteran free agent waters, here are three players they could get for the minimum.

The Green Bay Packers are in the market for a veteran quarterback and could take a long, hard look at these three free agents.

Jeff Driskel

Driskel was selected in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft and has actually started nine games in his career (with a 1-8 record). He’s bounced around in recent years, having spent time 2018 with the Cincinnati Bengals, 2019 with the Detroit Lions and 2020 with the Denver Broncos. He’ll likely try to sign on with another team and the Packers could bring him into camp as a warm body.

Brian Hoyer

If the Packers want to go the ol’ veteran route then Brian Hoyer is their guy. At 35-years-old, he’d give Rodgers someone his own age in the quarterback room and another guy with a bunch of professional experience. Hoyer has started 39 games in his career and has very much been a game manager. He’d be someone who could help mentor Love if Rodgers isn’t up for that role this season.

Next. Perhaps a massive Rodgers' extension would solve everything. dark

Nick Mullens

Nick Mullens is a name that Dairyland Express co-expert Paul Bretl threw out there as someone who has experience with the type of offense Matt LaFleur and Green Bay run. Mullens could give Love some legit competition for the no. 2 job and get his competitive juices flowing. At 26-years old, he has 16 career starts under his belt and has some experience in the NFL.
