The Green Bay Packers used their second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft to beef up the offensive line in front of (hopefully) Aaron Rodgers. Ohio State center Josh Myers was their selection.

Green Bay has seen a number of talented offensive linemen leave via free agency over the last few years and needed to replenish their talent pool at the position. Bryan Bulaga, Corey Linsley and Lane Taylor have all departed to new teams since 2020.

Myers, just like Linsley, hails from Ohio State and will have an opportunity to start at center for the Packers from Day 1. He’s a big body up front who can also cover ground quickly when asked to pull or pick up linebackers on the second level. However, he’s best when helping a friend and could struggle early on in his career when asked to win one-on-one matchups.

If he stays at center, he has plenty of experience as a shotgun snapper at Ohio State. That may seem like a skill not worth mentioning, but it’s incredibly important for a team like the Packers. His athleticism doesn’t jump off the chart at you which is odd considering general manager Brian Gutekunst’s penchant for taking athletes.

An instant reaction to the Green Bay Packers’ 2021 second-round pick of Ohio State center Josh Myers.

Myers isn’t a sexy pick at this point in the draft, especially when there were a couple of players including Wisconsin-Whitewater offensive lineman Quinn Meinerz still on the board. North Carolina wide receiver Dyami Brown was still out there as well.

Next. Packers aren't "idiots," Aaron Rodgers won't be traded. dark

It will be interesting to see what Green Bay does with their third-round pick. They’ve addressed two needs so far by selecting cornerback Eric Stokes in the first and Myers here. They could go a number of different directions with eight picks remaining. A trade is also a definite possibility.
