After staying put at in the first and second rounds, the Green Bay Packers traded picks 92 and 135 to Tennessee to move up and select receiver Amari Rodgers from Clemson.

Rodgers has a very similar playstyle to former Green Bay Packers receiver Randall Cobb. He was primarily a slot receiver at Clemson, which is an element that this offense hasn’t had in recent years, and he is perfect in the Matt LaFleur offense for that gadget-type of player that he covets.

Rodgers has four years of experience, but 2020 was his breakout season as he was targeted 99 times, hauling in nearly 78 percent of those passes for 1,020 yards and seven touchdowns. A bulk of Rodgers catches came within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage, according to PFF ($$).

Athletically, Rodgers posted a Relative Athletic Score of 5.37, which is below the 8.0 threshold that the Green Bay Packers have stuck to under Gutekunst. However, you can’t deny his fit in this offense. In addition to lining up in the slot, Rodgers will be used as the motion man, on designed touches to get him the ball in space, and as a potential return man as well.

This role was supposed to be filled by Tyler Ervin last season, but as he battled injuries, the Packers instead utilized Davante Adams, Allen Lazard, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling — which obviously worked just fine — this was the NFL’s top-scoring offense, but with Rodgers in the fold, he will provide the offense with some added juice.

For more on Rodgers game, here is what Joe Marino of The Draft Network had to say in his pre-draft report:

"“Rodgers is a slot receiver that is built like a running back. He thrived with manufactured touches and then using his physicality, burst, vision, and decisiveness to work after the catch. As his production increased as a senior, so did his role in the offense. 2020 sawRodgers produce more down the field in addition to his work in the short to intermediate areas of the field. He has reliable hands, plays a physical brand of football, and is a good athlete. When it comes to identifying areas of growth for Rodgers, developing his route tree and finding more consistency when challenged at the catch point stand out.”"

Rodgers will join the top scoring offense in the NFL and should make an immediate impact, giving LaFleur another weapon at his disposal.
