What started as a draft-day like any other, quickly escalated and blew up for the Green Bay Packers. Rumors started slowly about Aaron Rodgers wanting out of Green Bay and became full-fledged by the time the draft started. Thankfully, they’ve cooled way down and it’s now being reported by NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport that the Packers aren’t trading Rodgers.

It all began when the San Francisco 49ers reportedly made a trade offer for Rodgers that involved the third overall pick, Jimmy Garoppolo as well as other players and picks, and was swiftly turned down by the Packers. A bit later it was reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter that Rodgers was “so disgruntled” with the organization that he was refusing to return. And that’s only the beginning.

It was difficult to track all of the rumors and reports from there with Trey Wingo going so far as to say the Packers promised to trade Rodgers at the beginning of the offseason before backing off that commitment. Others said the breakdown in the relationship began last year when the Packers traded up in the first round to select Jordan Love without first notifying Aaron Rodgers. Jay Glazer also said the front office didn’t even notify Matt LaFleur they were going to make that selection. All this is crazy.

In what’s been a wild, wild ride, it’s now been reported that the Green Bay Packers are not interested in trading Aaron Rodgers.

Rapoport and a couple of other reports have now said the Packers are refusing to trade Rodgers and have even gone so far as to say they haven’t “engaged at all” with the few teams who have called for their MVP quarterback.

Rodgers still has three years left on his contract which gives Green Bay a lot of control in the situation. The reigning MVP, however, has reportedly refused to return to the organization and the two sides have a lot of work to do if they want to come to a resolution before the start of the season. Of course, there’s still the outside chance that he gets traded before draft night is over, but as of now, it appears Packers’ fans can breathe again as their star quarterback should still be on the roster once Day 1 of the draft is over.
