Pick 214: Demetric Felton, RB/WR, UCLA

Felton did not test anywhere near what many thought he would, and honestly, his RAS score may take him off the Green Bay Packers’ board. But in Round 6, I’m more than happy to take him. Felton did it all at UCLA, rushing for over 1,100-yards over his final two seasons while being targeted 129 times in the passing game over his four years.

He is tailormade for the gadget-type role in the LaFleur offense–something that they don’t have on the roster at the moment.

Pick 256: Tyler Coyle, S, Purdue

Coyle would add another versatile defender to the Green Bay Packers’ safety room. He tested extremely well athletically, and during his career at Purdue and primarily UCONN, he took 499 snaps as a free safety, 616 from the slot, and 901 in the box.

Final Thoughts

– Overall, I’m quite pleased with how this draft turned out, as I was able to find some immediate help. I would say five of my seven picks — minus Little and Coyle — will see the field in 2021 to varying degrees. And who knows, I wouldn’t completely rule out Little at this time either, and Coyle could very well see quite a bit of action on special teams.

– On the flip side, the draft is about planning ahead, and I feel I accomplished that as well by taking two corners, two receivers, hopefully finding my right tackle of the future and help along the interior defensive line.

– I’m not terribly upset that I didn’t land a running back, but ideally, I would have like to have added to the edge rusher and linebacker rooms. However, when making trades and losing three draft picks in the process, I was never going to be able to tackle every need.

– It is always quite difficult to decipher what Brian Gutekunst is going to do, but at this point, my best guess is that he is going to move up in the first round, and so I wanted to have that same aggressiveness if the right player was there. And the right player was certainly there.

– Landing a tackle earlier was something I wish I could have done as well. However, the value wasn’t really there at pick 62, and I just couldn’t pass on Campbell in Round 3–I still think that is a steal. And this is some of the risk that comes with relying on the draft; we don’t know how the board is going to fall or who will be available.
