Samuel Cosmi – Texas

Samuel Cosmi is the prospect that looks the most like a Green Bay Packers player on tape. For starters, he employs the same hug technique that I just mentioned, making it very tough for rushers to get around the 6’7″ 309-pound mountain, and once he locks his giant mitts onto a guy, the battle is over, and he’s won.

Unfortunately, while his technique at the point of contact is almost definitely the best of these three, his technique off the ball is far and away the worst. He’s slow off the ball, and his kick-back in pass pro often more resembles a backpedal than anything normally done by an offensive tackle. This could put him off balance if an edge rusher can catch him at the right time and send him backpedaling right back into the quarterback.

He uses those long arms and huge frame effectively in the run game as well but doesn’t drive guys back with the authority that Leatherwood does. He also struggles in space when he gets up to the second level, mostly because someone of his size isn’t often very agile, and he’s no exception to that rule.

Cosmi could definitely use some more polish, especially in pass protection, but he has big potential and already has tons of experience with zone blocking and the way Green Bay Pass blocks, so he could do a fine job filling in for a few games and holding it down while Bakhtiari gets healthy.
