At Pick 135, the Green Bay Packers Select: Walker Little, OT, Stanford

Well, it took until Round 4, but I was finally able to land my offensive tackle. Little comes with some unknowns because he hasn’t really played since the 2018 season–although to his credit, it was an impressive year where he allowed only 12 total pressures as the left tackle. Little is an excellent athlete, posting a RAS of 8.9, and it shows up on his tape with his range and ability to work in space.

Unfortunately, Little would get injured early on in 2019, and he opted out of the 2020 season. So as he shakes off the rust, he may not come in and start right away — however, I do think it’s possible — but at a minimum, he will be the team’s swing tackle in 2021 and the right tackle of the future in 2022 and beyond.

At Pick 142, the Green Bay Packers Select; Ambry Thomas, CB, Michigan

Thomas is a bit of a raw player with only one year under his belt as a starter, so he’s not a player that should be thrown into the fire right away, and with Alexander, Farley, and Kevin King, he doesn’t have to be.

Thomas stands at 6’0″ and is a very good athlete, posting a RAS of 9.48 out of 10 at his Pro-Day. In 2019 — his one season as a starter — he was targeted 47 times, allowing a completion rate of just 53 percent, showing plus ball-skills with three interceptions and three pass breakups. He is also someone who could contribute right away on special teams, where he has experience as a return man.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I like how this mock draft unfolded. I was able to land three players in Farley, Brown, and McNeill, who should all see a fair amount of playing time as rookies–and perhaps Little will as well, depending on how he looks early on. On top of that, I began reshaping the cornerback room with two new additions and laid the foundation to do the same at receiver. I was also able to hit on what many perceive as Green Bay’s three biggest needs–cornerback, interior defensive lineman, and offensive tackle.

If I could make one change, it would have been to address the tackle position sooner, but I made it difficult on myself by really wanting to land Farley and Brown, but it’s not as if the board did me any favors either in Rounds two and three.

Looking ahead to rounds five through seven, another receiver, inside linebacker depth, a third running back, and depth at safety are all positions that would be on my radar after these first five selections.
