It was about one year ago when everyone and their mom wanted the Green Bay Packers to select a wide receiver early in the NFL Draft. If not the first round, then soon thereafter. However, general manager Brian Gutekunst and the front office defied those requests and went through the entire draft without picking up one single wide receiver in what was, perhaps, the deepest receiver draft ever.

Green Bay responded with an explosive offense that led them to their second consecutive NFC Championship game and another MVP for Aaron Rodgers. Yet here we are again with analysts asking when the Packers will add to their wide receiver room.

Although the Packers return their top four wide receivers from a year ago–Davante Adams, Allen Lazard, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Equanimous St. Brown–plus Devin Funchess, none of them are under contract past 2021. And with salary cap issues already looming, they could be looking for some cheaper alternatives in the very near future.

All of that adds up to Green Bay potentially doing what many thought they’d do a year ago–draft a wide receiver early in the draft. This could be a fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me situation, but we are willing to take that risk. Here are five wide receivers Green Bay could target with the 29th overall pick in this year’s draft.

The Green Bay Packers could take a long hard look at any of these five wide receivers in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

5. Rondale Moore, Purdue

Although Rondale Moore is on my players to avoid list, I thought I’d mention him here at No. 5. He’s 32nd on PFF’s Big Board which means he could be in play depending on how Green Bay values him. I’m not a huge fan of his size (5-foot-9) and injury history (he’s played in just seven games total the last two years), however, there’s no denying he’s a dynamic playmaker with the ball in his hands (114 receptions for 1258 yards and 14 total touchdowns in 2018).
