Packers 7-round 2021 NFL Mock Draft: Massive defensive reload
Packers mock draft Round 5 (173rd overall): Chauncey Golston, Edge, Iowa
With two more selections in the fifth round, I focused on a best (defensive) player available approach regardless of the position. I felt by adding two corners, one safety and two defensive linemen in the first four rounds, the biggest of Green Bay’s needs were addressed. Although the Packers don’t necessarily need an edge rusher with Za’Darius Smith, Preston Smith and Rashan Gary all returning, Golston can be an early-down edge-defender for Green Bay and even play on the inside a little. Taking a few snaps could help the others stay fresher for the all-important passing downs throughout games.
Packers mock draft Round 5 (178th overall): Garrett Wallow, LB, TCU
Green Bay is already incredibly young with second-year pros Kamal Martin and Krys Barnes projected to battle it out for the starting inside linebacker job. However, Green Bay needs depth at the position and they could very well add another linebacker in the middle to late rounds. The biggest downfall in Wallow’s game is that he’s undersized and struggles to get off blocks. When he is able to stay free, he doe a nice job reading the play, staying under control and making the right play. He’ll never be a stellar player, but he could turn into a solid contributor.
