Packers round 5 (173rd overall): Chauncey Golston, Edge, Iowa

Even though Green Bay’s top three edge rushers are returning (Preston Smith, Za’Darius Smith and Rashan Gary), they’ll still need some depth behind them. Chauncey Golston has nice upside and could be a sleeper in the fifth round. He offers the ability to get after the quarterback and just needs some more time to develop his moves.

Packers round 5 (178th overall): Caden Stearns, S, Texas

Sticking to defense, the Packers add safety Caden Stearns with their second selection in the fifth round. The Packers are still searching for their third safety behind Adrian Amos and Darnell Savage and Stearns could be their guy. Stearns greatly improved his tackling ability last season and is extremely aggressive at the point of attack. He also brings good athleticism to the field–something the front office prioritizes. It might take him some time to contribute on defense, but he has all the makings of an immediate special teams contributor, something Green Bay also needs.
