To wide receiver or not to wide receiver, that has been the question for the Green Bay Packers in each of the last two offseasons. Most analysts and fans expected the team to at least add one in last year’s draft–a class that was loaded with them. However, they opted not to and went into 2020 with their only acquisition at the position–Devin Funchess-opting out due to the pandemic. Could T.Y. Hilton be the guy they turn to this offseason?

According to ESPN, the Packers and Miami Dolphins “could be in play” for Hilton, the former Indianapolis Colts’ wide receiver. Hilton caught 56 passes for 762 yards and five touchdowns last year. That was his second straight season with fewer than 1000 receiving yards after achieving that mark five times from 2013 to 2018.

A free agent, Hilton is probably looking to secure one more big contract. At 31-years-old, the speedster’s best days are likely behind him, but he’s looking to prove he still has some left in the tank. Hilton would compliment Davante Adams’ finesse game nicely and give Green Bay another potential deep threat along with Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

The Green Bay Packers are looking to take the next step and get back to the Super Bowl, and they are reportedly interested in T.Y. Hilton.

Hilton has very good hands and drops aren’t an issue for him. That’s the type of receiver who can quickly gain Aaron Rodgers’ confidence–something that’s a must in this Packers’ offense. Hilton would also give head coach Matt LaFleur another weapon to add to an already dangerous offense and help make up for the potential loss of Aaron Jones (although the Packers are still trying to keep him).

PFF predicts Hilton will secure a contract that averages $9.5 million per season. That means Green Bay would have to clear some more cap space as they just barely got under the salary cap for this season. Fortunately, the Packers still have a number of ways to clear additional cap space if they so choose. Keep your eye on Packers and Hilton moving forward.
