We are now single-digit days away from the start of the 2021 NFL free agency period (March 17th at 3 pm CT). However, the Green Bay Packers still have a lot of work cut out for them in order to get under the salary cap and create any room to operate with new free agents.

However, if they can create even a little bit of space, there should be a number of bargain free agents available. Such is the life this offseason when the salary cap has plummeted from original expectations and a lot of teams are scrambling to get under.

The Packers have tough decisions to make on a number of their own free agents, guys that are likely going to be gone (an official prediction will come later on). Here are five bold predictions about what is going to happen for the Green Bay Packers and their pending players in 2021 free agency.

Packers cut Preston Smith

General manager Brian Gutekunst recently hinted the team was going to keep outside linebacker Preston Smith despite enticing reasons to release him. Among those reasons include saving $8 million on this year’s cap–money that is sorely needed. Smith also struggled in his second season in Green Bay and third-year pro Rashan Gary looks hungry for more playing time. Despite Gutekunst’s message to the media, I still expect Smith to be cut before free agency begins.
