The Milwaukee Bucks landed a score in free agency when they signed big man Bobby Portis to a one-year deal plus a player option. Portis has been terrific off the bench and has quickly earned the nickname Bobby Gets Buckets.

Although Portis is only averaging 11 points per game this season, he’s scoring more efficiently than ever before. His field goal percentage (54.6 percent), three-point percentage (50 percent) and effective field goal percentage (60.9 percent) are all career-highs as the Bucks head into the All-Star break.

He does most of his damage in catch-and-shoot scenarios where he is absolutely lethal. This is how he gets just about all his attempts from behind the arc–in spot-up or pick-and-pop situations. This is probably best because the more he puts the ball on the floor the more likely he is to miss his ensuing shot attempt.

His favorite spots on the court include the right short corner, just below the free throw line and at the top of the key. He has a plethora of moves he can go to including floaters, a spin to his left with a right baby hook, and a face up where he hits his man with a combination of jab steps and ball fakes. He’s also strong enough to back down smaller players while quick enough to take heftier ones off the bounce.

Milwaukee Bucks’ big man Bobby Portis has been a breath of fresh air off the bench. Here’s exactly how he gets buckets for the Bucks.

Portis has quickly endeared himself to Bucks’ fans everywhere thanks to his smooth-shooting, eye-popping, trash-talking ways on the court and his engagement with fans off it. He’s on record stating he took less money to come to Milwaukee and play for a contender, and we are all grateful for that. Enjoy this video breakdown about how he gets buckets for the Bucks.
