3. Add to the Running back room

Considering that the Green Bay Packers had one of, if not the best backfield in the NFL last season, it is shaping up to look quite different in 2021–or at least it appears to be right now. The Packers have had contract talks with both Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones, but nothing has materialized. While either could still come back, at this moment, it looks like both will hit free agency.

That essentially leaves AJ Dillon as the only returning running back who saw any sort of significant playing time last season–although Dexter Williams, Patrick Taylor — who I like — and Mike Weber are other options already on the roster. Expect Green Bay to spend at least one or perhaps two of their 10 draft picks on the running back position.

4. Find CB2 and if you want to get greedy some competition at nickel

As far as positions that the Green Bay Packers have to address this offseason, finding a running mate for Jaire Alexander is at the top of the list. Kevin King won’t be back, and that leaves Green Bay with Josh Jackson, Ka’dar Hollman, Stanford Samuels, and KeiVarae Russell as on the roster options–yeah, not ideal.

While I wouldn’t expect several free agency moves or even a big one, they do have room to make a signing or two, and it should be spent on the cornerback position. Then after signing a veteran in free agency to provide some stability, they should draft a cornerback early, and then it wouldn’t hurt to add another one later on.

In a perfect world, I’d love for Green Bay to add to the slot corner position as well, but step one is addressing the major hole on the boundary. If they do that and have the opportunity to land a nickel corner, then, by all means, go for it.

5. Depth at Edge

This seems to be a need that is flying under the radar a bit, and the degree to which it needs to be addressed hinges on whether or not Preston Smith is back. If he isn’t, then the Green Bay Packers need to find a third edge rusher to join Rashan Gary and Za’Darius Smith.

Now, with that said, could Jon Garvin be the answer? Maybe. Or could Tipa Galeai be the answer? Again, maybe. But I don’t want to enter the season with two maybes and banking on the development of a seventh-round pick and a UDFA at an important position. Let’s add some competition to this room.
