Bucks Film Room: Giannis Antetokounmpo creating for Khris Middleton
The Milwaukee Bucks were able to snap their five-game losing streak on Friday night thanks to a tough, defensive-minded victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Although the Bucks have a lot to work on, it was at least nice to get back into the winning column.
In a new experimental series, I went live on Twitter and YouTube to break down a crucial play in the fourth quarter of the Bucks’ victory over the Thunder. With a little over five minutes remaining in the game, Oklahoma City was rallying to make it a game and widdled down the lead to a mere seven points. With the Bucks desperate to avoid a sixth-straight loss, back-to-back MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo went to work.
After D.J. Augustin threw a pass to Donte DiVincenzo on the left-wing, he went to sent a down screen for Antetokounmpo who then received the ball at the top of the key. As he squared up his defender, Al Horford, at the top of the key, the rest of the Thunder defenders crowded the driving lanes and forced Antetokounmpo to attack down the right lane line. As he did so, Luguentz Dort slid over to stop the Greek Freak from getting all the way to the basket. However, he left Khris Middleton wide open in the right corner and the ball found him for an open three.
In the video below, I break down exactly how that happened and why Antetokounmpo needs to continue taking what defenses give him. Please feel free to leave comments below and let me know what you think of this style of video breakdown and if you’d like more of them moving forward.
