Defensive lineman Packers should target in free agency: Trent Murphy

If we’re targeting players with a connection to the Packers, Trent Murphy might be at the top of the list. He played for Green Bay’s new defensive coordinator Joe Barry in Washington back in 2016 and had his best season as a pro. During that campaign, he racked up nine sacks, 25 quarterback hits, and 47 combined tackles–all career-highs by far.

At 6-foot-6 and 260 pounds, Murphy is best suited to play a defensive end position in Green Bay’s alignment. That could allow Clark and Kinglsey to stay inside where they probably do their best work. Murphy can also provide some insurance as an edge rusher. He may not be the perfect player Green Bay needs upfront, but he’s a quality big man and the Packers need more of those heading into 2021.
