Packers don’t re-sign Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams, Kevin King, or Corey Linsley

I’ve been on record pushing for the Packers to franchise tag Aaron Jones for just over $8 million, but that seems unlikely if Green Bay wants to shore up other weaknesses on their team. The most realistic route is the Packers let Jones, Jamaal Williams, Kevin King and Corey Linsley walk in free agency.

The writing has been on the wall since the 2020 draft when Green Bay selected A.J. Dillon in the second round. Dillon flashed in his rookie season and should be ready to handle a bigger load in year two. Although a Jones-Dillon backfield would be extremely fun, it’s a longshot we’ll see that next season.

As for King, well, what is there to say after his poor showing in the NFC Championship game? When you combine his inconsistency with his injury history, he’s too pricey and risky for the Packers. Last, but not least is Linsley. The Packers would love to have him back, but he’s coming off his best season as a pro and deserves to be paid handsomely for it. That’s something the Packers just can’t afford.
