Green Bay Packers: Matt Miller’s 7 Round 2021 NFL Mock Draft Hits Several Key Needs
By Paul Bretl
Round 5, Pick 157: Quinton Bohanna, IDL, Kentucky
Takeaway: Can we finally get Kenny Clark some help inside? While many were surprised that the Green Bay Packers didn’t address receiver in 2020, I was surprised they didn’t address the interior defensive line. Kingsley Keke made some promising strides last season, but other than him and Clark, there isn’t much to be excited about.
At 6’4″ – 357 pounds, Bohanna is a nose tackle and would hopefully provide the run game with a boost. With Bohanna on the field, he will occupy both space and blockers while allowing Clark to slide over to 3-tech, where he can be disruptive.
Round 6, Pick 190: Tommy Doyle, IOL, Miami (OH)
Takeaway: Once we get to these final rounds, it’s really all about finding the best player available. As I mentioned in the intro, it would have been nice to grab an edge rusher or a running back, but at this stage of the game, it’s talent over need.
Doyle played in just three games this past season, allowing no sacks and two pressures in 84 pass-blocking snaps. In 2019, he gave up only one sack and 11 pressures in 362 pass-blocking attempts. At 6’8″ – 326 pounds, Doyle played tackle at Miami, but as Miller suggests, he would be an interior lineman in the NFL.
Round 7, Pick 221: Brennan Eagles, WR, Texas
Takeaway: There you go Green Bay Packers fans, another receiver! Over the last two seasons with the Longhorns, Eagles has 60 receptions on 110 targets for 991 yards, 11 touchdowns, and averaged 16.5 yards per catch. He took some snaps from the slot but has primarily been a boundary receiver.
As Jordan Reid of The Draft Network points out, Eagles was very good at winning contested catches downfield during his career at Texas, using his 6’4″ – 225 pound frame to his advantage. Reid also notes his “strong hands.”
