Packers extend players: Saves $26.4 million

This might be the best option for Green Bay to save some money, at least as far as it relates to two of these three players. The Packers could save about $26.4 million by extending the contracts of Davante Adams ($9.3 million), Za’Darius Smith ($12.4 million) and Adrian Amos ($4.7 million).

Extending Adams is an absolute no-brainer and should be done immediately. He has proven himself as one of, if not the, best wide receiver in the NFL and deserves to be on this team for many years to come. Considering Amos’ strong play over the last half of the season, extending him should also be in the works. The biggest question mark comes with Smith. He has a $22 million cap hit for 2021 and is set to be a free agent after 2022. If the Packers add years to his contract, they’ll be paying him into his early 30s, a risk they might not be willing to take.
