The Green Bay Packers have a lot of changes ahead of them this offseason; especially at the running back position. This was an area of strength for the team over the past two seasons, but there are a lot of question marks moving forward.

Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let’s take a moment to reflect. After grading the quarterbacks, let’s review each of the five running backs who played snaps for the Packers in the 2020 season.

With the Green Bay Packers’ offseason officially underway, let’s take a moment to review their 2020 season and grade the running backs.

Dexter Williams

The former sixth-round pick from the 2019 NFL Draft hasn’t quite been able to stick around on the active roster. However, he was able to make minimal contributions to special teams and offense this season. His two carries on the season came in Week 9 against the San Francisco 49ers when he gained eight yards. Otherwise, he played a handful of snaps on each of the special teams’ units. This is about what we expected from Williams this season (which plays a part in the grade) so there’s nothing not to like from the little-used running back.

Grade: C

Tyler Ervin

After a promising end to the 2019 season, it’s safe to say Tyler Ervin had a disappointing encore. Although it was mostly injury-related, Ervin was never able to get going for the Packers as a running back/wide receiver hybrid nor as a returner. He played in only eight games, and had 13 carries, five punt returns and 10 kick returns. If the Packers choose to bring the unrestricted free agent back in 2021, his role could get back to what it was at the end of 2019.
