4. Preston Smith

With Green Bay being significantly over the salary cap there will be a number of veterans they cut that wouldn’t normally be let go. And Preston Smith is at the top of the list.

Smith had an abysmal second year in Green Bay and was a significant disappointment. After racking up 12 sacks and 34 pressures in 2019, he only accumulated four sacks and 16 pressures this year. A huge downturn. When you combine that with the rising emergence of Rashan Gary, it’s clear the Packers are ready to move on from him.

The Packers can also save a significant portion of money if they let Smith go. According to Over The Cap, Green Bay would save $8 million if they cut him before June 1st. Although they would also eat $8 million, that’s a large chunk of cash they’ll need to get under the salary cap.
