Robert Tonyan vs. Troy Reeder

Obviously, the big matchup in the passing game for the Green Bay Packers this week is Davante Adams against Jalen Ramsey in a matchup of possibly the two best at their respective positions, but you probably already knew that. Let me tell you about a different X-Factor that I believe could play a huge role this week.

Robert Tonyan had a breakout season this year, catching 52 passes for 586 yards and 11 touchdowns, getting snubbed from the Pro Bowl. He ranks second on the team in both catches and receiving touchdowns and third in yards. His big year has been a nice replacement for the big wide receiver acquisition that everyone was hoping for and now he has the chance to prove he can do it in the playoffs.

On the other side of the ball, inside linebacker Troy Reeder, who has played over 90 percent of defensive snaps in the Rams’ last seven games, will probably see him the most. Tonyan will, of course, also draw some safeties. He’s another guy, like Aaron Jones, that could easily be put on the outside of Ramsey moves into the slot.

Davante Adams is going to get his catches; the Packers won’t just completely go away from their number one offensive playmaker and best receiver in the NFL. However, Ramsey is one of the best in the game, and they can’t have Adams as their only real weapon as they did in the playoffs last season.

Tonyan stepping up and having a big game would almost definitely secure a win for Green Bay. His athleticism and trust built with Aaron Rodgers make him a huge threat to this Rams’ defense that has it’s biggest weakness in the middle of the field where Tonyan often is. He’s the number two option in the passing game and the one with the most favorable matchup, so it’s time to step up and make some plays in the postseason for the former undrafted tight end.
