Green Bay Packers v. Rams: 3 Key X-Factors in Divisional Round
By Paul Bretl
Green Bay Packers X-Factor: Lucas Patrick
The entire Green Bay Packers’ offensive line better be ready to play against a Rams’ defensive front that is third in pressures, first in sacks, and fourth in yards per carry allowed. Aaron Donald will line up pretty much wherever he wants, having a fairly equal split between the right side and the left side of the defensive line. So I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he tries to match up with Lucas Patrick at times throughout this game.
Patrick has really put together a very nice season for the Packers, and one that I’m sure caught most by surprise. He’s played both guard positions and has given up three sacks and only 16 total pressures. However, in the second half against Carolina, we saw Patrick get bullied a bit, which led to several direct pressures on Aaron Rodgers. And as we saw in this game as well as the one against Tampa Bay, when Rodgers is under pressure, the offense comes to a halt.
It’s a lot more difficult to provide help to an interior lineman than it is a tackle, but if Donald is lined up over Patrick, any sort of help or jab that Linsley can provide will be welcomed. Also, the quick passing game will be Rodgers’ best friend as well. But ultimately, Patrick — along with the rest of the offensive line — is just simply going to have to bring his “A” game on Saturday.
