Packers’ breakout candidate no. 2: Marquez Valdes-Scantling
Marquez Valdes-Scantling can drive Packers’ fans mad and that was never on fuller display than in their Week 17 victory over the Bears. Early in the game, Valdes-Scantling blew the top off the defense and went crazy for a 72-yard touchdown reception. Early in the third quarter, he once again found himself wide open deep down the field and Aaron Rodgers laid a perfect ball right into his lap…only for Valdes-Scantling to drop it and see the rock fall to the field.
The good news is Valdes-Scantling routinely finds himself open behind the defense. The bad news is it’s 50/50 whether he’ll actually catch it or not. The Packers need him, as he’s their only deep threat who can keep safeties honest. It just takes a couple of receptions to get his confidence going and all of the sudden the Packers could find themselves with a brand new, catching version of Valdes-Scantling.
