Green Bay Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers might have already secured the 2020 MVP award following his performance in Week 16.

After receiving little attention in the MVP race to begin the season, Green Bay Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers has come on strong for a while now and is playing his best ball with one game remaining. After Rodgers surpassed Russell Wilson in the unofficial race, it’s been a two-man competition between Rodgers and Kansas City Chief’s star Patrick Mahomes. Now it appears it may be wrapped up.

Mahomes had another lackluster performance against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday–really his whole month of December has been subpar. In his four games this month, he’s thrown for eight touchdowns and four interceptions while only completing 60 percent of his passes. That gives him 4740 passing yards, 40 total touchdowns, six interceptions and a 66.3 percent completion percentage on the season.

Meanwhile, Rodgers dominated in a snowy Lambeau Field on Sunday night against the Tennesee Titans. Throughout this month, he’s thrown for 11 touchdowns and one interception while completing 76 percent of his passes. For the year, he has 4059 yards, 47 total touchdowns, five interceptions and a 70.3 percent completion percentage–leading Mahomes in every category except yards.

With one game remaining for each team, it’s unclear how much Mahomes will play in their finalé. The Chiefs have locked up the AFC and have absolutely nothing to play for other than potential individual accolades. On the other hand, the Packers still have to lock up the top seed in the NFC which means Rodgers could have an extra meaningful game than Mahomes.

Rodgers, PFF’s highest-graded quarterback at 94.5, appears to have the media already dubbing him as a lock to win the MVP award. PFF said he “solidifies MVP”, ESPN wrote an article saying “Rodgers passes Patrick Mahomes as favorite to be MVP”, Bleacher Report has determined “game over” on the MVP race, and CBS believes he “all but locked up the MVP award.”

If Rodgers caps the season in style and ends up winning the MVP award it will be via a historically great performance. At 37-years-old, and just a few years after a number of analysts thought his career was winding down, he’s turning in a career-year. A lot of credit goes to head coach Matt LaFleur who has slowed down the game for Rodgers and made life easier on him. However, Rodgers has thrived despite not having elite offensive weapons to throw to. No matter what happens with the award, let’s just sit back and enjoy this magnificent quarterback play by one of the best to ever to it.
