Green Bay Packers: Grading the Coaching Staff
By Matt LeVene
Shawn Mennenga
The Green Bay Packers special teams unit, similarly to the defense, has had its fair share of letdowns. Mason Crosby and the kicking game has been on point for much of the year. The punt coverage on the other hand, has left something to be desired.
The punt team has given up multiple big play touchdowns that swung the momentum of the game. These sort of mishaps must be eliminated in order to compete and hopefully win a Super Bowl. J.K. Scott himself has been fairly consistent and serviceable, but needs more support from the coverage team.
Mennenga needs to get his coverage team on the same page and limit the success of opposing returns. On top of that, we’ve seen the special teams group allow some blocks this year as well. This too needs to be addressed and fixed before the playoffs begin.
Grade: C
Overall the Packers coaching staff has done pretty well. There are some lapses that are cause for concern, but as fans we must trust in the coaches to iron out any and all detrimental miscues. All eyes will be on the Green Bay Packers as the playoffs approach, and with Super Bowl aspirations, the pressure will be on.
