Packers: Winners and losers from Week 16 victory over Titans
Loser: Aaron Jones’ chances to return to Green Bay in 2021
Aaron Jones has established himself as one of the best running backs in the NFL and he deserves to be paid like one–that much is clear. His playing time was limited against the Titans, as he was battling a toe injury, yet, he still rushed for 94 yards on 10 carries.
With his backup Jamaal Williams out due to a quadriceps injury, rookie AJ Dillon answered the bell and had a breakout performance. Dillon ran for 124 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries (a 5.9 average) and looked like a big, bruising running back nobody wanted to tackle. Dillon was drafted to take over the reins in 2021 and it looks like this performance sealed the fate of Jones getting his fat contract elsewhere.
Winner: Aaron Rodgers’ MVP Hopes
After watching Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers’ primary MVP competition, have a ho-hum game against the Atlanta Falcons earlier in the day, Rodgers had to know the window for his third MVP was ripped wide open again. And he didn’t disappoint. The Packers’ quarterback completed 21 of his 25 passing attempts for 231 yards and four touchdowns. His only blemish was a cross-field throw that was picked off by Malcolm Butler. With one meaningful game remaining, Rodgers appears to have taken a slight lead in the MVP campaign.
