With Milwaukee Bucks’ star Giannis Antetokounmpo agreeing to re-sign with the team on Tuesday, here are the biggest winners and losers.

It’s been a heck of a roller coaster ride for the Milwaukee Bucks, their fans and Giannis Antetokounmpo. And I’m just talking about since the season ended. It feels like the Bucks have experienced the highest of highs (the Jrue Holiday trade) and the lowest of lows (the “botched” Bogdan Bogdanovic deal) all within a truncated offseason.

Every move general manager Jon Horst made carried the extra weight of impacting a potential Anteotkounmpo contract decision. Fortunately, the reigning two-time MVP and Defensive Player of the Year agreed to a whopping five-year, $228.2 million extension that kicks in for the 2021-22 season (also known as the supermax). As that settles in, let’s check out the winners and losers from Antetokounmpo re-signing with the Bucks.

Winner: Giannis Antetokounmpo

The biggest winner is obviously Antetokounmpo himself. In case you didn’t know, Antetokounmpo grew up in Greece where he had to sell trinkets on the street and share basketball shoes with his brother. He was then selected with the 15th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft and went through the greatest transformation in league history. In the words of the great poet Drake, Antetokounmpo, “started from the bottom and now we’re here.” He has earned every single penny of the largest contract in NBA history. He deserves this moment and everything that comes after it.
