The Milwaukee Bucks will have the reigning two-time MVP and the reigning defensive player of the year, Giannis Antetokounmpo, for the next five seasons.

The truncated NBA off-season has been focused around the decision of one person, that person being Giannis Antetokounmpo. Antetokounmpo had until December 21st to sign the supermax extension with the Milwaukee Bucks, or he would have to wait until next offseason to sign with the Bucks or another team.

Seemingly every fan base thought that they had a shot at landing the Greek Freak, and there were even teams — most notably the Miami Heat — who have reportedly been preparing their roster and cap space to potentially sign Giannis if he were to become a free agent in 2021.

However, there will be no more speculation moving forward. On December 15th at 12:21 pm, The Athletic’s Shams Charania sent shock waves around the NBA as he reported that Antetokounmpo would be signing the supermax deal to stay in Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee Bucks and the fans of the Bucks have been waiting and hoping that one of the best players to ever put on a Bucks jersey would sign the supermax extension. Well, that day has come, and as long as the Bucks have the reigning two-time MVP on their side, they will continue to be in contention in the Eastern Conference and in the entire NBA as well.

Shortly after the report from Charania, Antetokounmpo tweeted this out, much to the happiness of Bucks fans.

Since Antetokounmpo was drafted by the Bucks, he has been very appreciative and said on multiple occasions that he wants to stay in Milwaukee for his career. More importantly, he has also said that he would like to bring another championship to Milwaukee. The last championship that was won in the city of Milwaukee was by the 1971 Bucks team.

There have been countless quotes from Antetokounmpo about wanting to win. This offseason, to help increase their odds of keeping Giannis, the Bucks reworked their bench and made an all-in type of move trading for Jrue Holiday. While some may wonder whether or not the Bucks did enough this offseason to win a title in 2021 and in the coming years, clearly, Antetokounmpo thinks that this is a championship-caliber roster.

Now that we know Antetokounmpo will be in Milwaukee for years to come, the focus shifts to the present and the season that is right in front of them. Now, it’s time to go win a championship.
