Green Bay Packers: Week 14 Studs and Duds vs Detroit Lions
The Green Bay Packers improved to 10-3 on the year while clinching a playoff spot and winning the NFC North.
The Green Bay Packers continue to play well, winning five of their last six games with the only loss coming in overtime against the Indianapolis Colts. This week, the Packers pick up a 31-24 victory against the Detroit Lions to win the NFC North for the 11th time in 19 seasons since the NFC North was established in 2002. I will break down the studs and duds for this week 14 victory over the Lions
Studs
Marquez Valdes-Scantling
The stat line for Marquez Valdes-Scantling was not even the best stat line for a wide receiver in this football game, but I do think Valdes-Scantling played very well. Save for one holding call on Valdes-Scantling I thought he has continued to show he is a good blocker on the edge for the Packers.
We expect Valdes-Scantling to be a deep play threat and make his impact by using his speed on long TD passes. In this game, we saw more nuance to Valdes-Scantling’s game, the ability to get open underneath and be an effective and reliable receiver for Aaron Rodgers.
Lastly, I just want to mention how great Valdes-Scantling was able to catch the ball in this game. This has been the biggest weakness for Valdes-Scantling, and in this game, he looked like a natural catcher of the football. His touchdown catch was one I was not expecting, but if he can start to catch like this on a regular basis, that could make this offense a lot more potent than it already is.
