Ranking Milwaukee Bucks’ options at starting shooting guard
2. Bryn Forbes
Don’t sleep on Bryn Forbes as the fifth starter. Depending on what Budenholzer wants to do, Forbes could be the perfect complimentary player for the starters, while also optimizing Milwaukee’s bench.
Forbes made 38.8 percent of his threes last season and is a 40 percent outside shooter in his career. That’s exactly what the Bucks need from a fifth starter. Forbes can space the floor, giving Holiday, Antetokounmpo and Middleton all the room they could dream of inside the arc. He’s also capable of hitting shots off screens and keeping his defender engaged at all times.
Budenholzer would have to figure out the defensive side of things, as Holiday will likely move up from his weight class and guard wings. That means Forbes would match up with points–something I’m not sure he’s capable of doing.
By inserting Forbes into the starting lineup, it also allows DiVincenzo to come off the bench alongside Augustin. An Augustin-Forbes backcourt pairing is a whole lot of offense, but very little defense. DiVincenzo would give Milwaukee a more defensive-minded guard to play alongside the offensively-centric Augustin. It would be the best of both worlds.
