Ranking Milwaukee Bucks’ options at starting shooting guard
4. Torrey Craig
If the Bucks want to go with a defense-first approach, Torrey Craig is their guy. He’s right up there with Jrue Holiday as Milwaukee’s best perimeter defender this season and it will be fun to watch him work on that end. Despite being 6’6″, he mostly defended combo guards and point guards last season–the three players he matched up with most often last year were Donovan Mitchell, Russell Westbrook and Damian Lillard. However, he’s more than capable of guarding bigger wings like LeBron James and Jayson Tatum as well.
The biggest downfall with Craig being your fifth starter is the lack of offense he brings to the court. He’s not one who can create his own shot or even knock down open threes consistently. He only made 32.6 percent of all his threes in 2019-20 and 33.3 percent when the closest defender was six or more feet away. That means his man would be able to linger in the paint to deter Antetokounmpo from driving at will. That’s a problem the Bucks worked to eliminate by trading away Eric Bledsoe and not one they’d likely welcome back right away.
