Aaron Jones signs with the Dolphins

Bringing back Aaron Jones is another move that I don’t see the Green Bay Packers being able to make either. One of the biggest debates going on in the NFL right now is whether or not to pay top-tier running backs. And while I ultimately fall on the side of not doing that, Jones makes that decision really difficult.

Jones is a vital part of this offense; whether it be in the running or passing game, he provides this group with a spark. Like this unit really looks different when he’s on the field compared to when he’s not. This year, Jones has another chance at a 1,000-yard season, and he could set a new career-high in receiving yards as well.

However, if Jones does land in the $11.25 million per year ballpark that Pro Football Focus predicts, then letting him go elsewhere in free agency is the right move. While he’s not Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams is a very good all-around back in his own regard, and to his credit, he looks much more explosive this season. He also isn’t going to cost nearly as much to retain. And I’m sure you haven’t forgotten about A.J. Dillon, who the Packers spent a second-round draft pick on this past offseason.

Much like Linsley, we don’t want to see Jones go, but it’s a loss that Green Bay can absorb, and they’ll save some precious cap space in the process.
