The lack of energy/playing from behind

I’m going to go ahead and lump these two together since I believe there is some overlap. A more recent and ugly trend that we’ve seen from the Green Bay Packers has been a lack of energy, specifically against Minnesota and Jacksonville at home of all places. After the Jaguars game, Matt LaFleur called the energy level “disturbing,” which I’m sure we all agree with, and as Andy Herman of Packer Report pointed out, it’s just baffling how a team with several strong leaders can look so disengaged at times.

If LaFleur actually has an answer as to why this is happening, he didn’t disclose it on Sunday when asked about it, and I’m not sure that anyone can pinpoint a specific reason or two behind this lack-luster play. Whether it was due to playing inferior opponents, the lack of fans, or the poor weather, this simply has to stop.

Another trend that is taking place and one that started back in the 2019 season, is that this Packers team doesn’t respond well when they’ve been punched in the mouth. During the LaFleur era in Green Bay, the Packers have not lost much, but when they do, it’s usually pretty ugly. In fact, in those six games, they’ve lost by an average of 17 points, and the scapegoat on several occasions has been, you guessed it, a “lack of energy.” So now you see why I put these two together.

Once again, I’m at a loss for why this happens, and I’m not sure that anyone outside of 1265 Lombardi Avenue has that answer. But when some adversity hits, this Green Bay team doesn’t always respond; instead, they crumble. Come playoff time, they’re likely going to be trailing at some point, and they have to be able to fight back.
