Will Fuller – Houston Texans

The hottest name right now among Packer Nation is current Houston Texans wide receiver Will Fuller. It was reported earlier this week by Aaron Reiss of The Athletic that Green Bay was among the teams that have called on Fuller.

Fuller is in the final season of his rookie deal and is on pace for a career year. After posting 49 receptions for 670 yards with three touchdowns in 2019, Fuller has already totaled 490 yards on 31 receptions for a career-high 15.8 yards per catch with five touchdowns.

As good as Allen Lazard has been this season, Fuller could step on the field and immediately be Green Bay’s No. 2 receiver. He’d also be a major upgrade over Marquez Valdes-Scantling as a deep threat. Fuller is the 12th ranked receiver on deep ball yards – passes of over 20 yards – while his completion rate of 55.6 percent on those deep balls ranks fourth.

In terms of his contract, given the Packers’ tight cap situation, it would be a tight squeeze, but a move that is workable, according to Ken Ingalls. If acquired at the deadline, Green Bay would inherit a cap hit of $5.38 million. Once again, that’s workable, but as Ken put it, “real tight” as well.

If the Green Bay Packers are going to upgrade the receiver position at the deadline, when it comes to realistic candidates, Will Fuller is about as good as it gets.
