Green Bay Packers at Houston: 3 X-Factors for Sunday’s Game
By Paul Bretl
Green Bay Packers RB – Jamaal Williams
Aaron Jones told reporters that he is “confident” that he will play Sunday, but as we saw with Davante Adams’ hamstring injury, along with numerous other examples over the years, this Green Bay Packers’ medical staff is on the conservative side. And just because Jones thinks he can play doesn’t mean he will.
That means we could see a lot more Jamaal Williams this week against what is a very bad Houston Texans run defense. When it comes to total rushing yards allowed, rushing yards per game, and rushing yards per carry, the Texans rank last in the NFL in all three categories. Not to mention that the eight rushing touchdowns they’ve allowed are also the third most.
With or without Jones, Williams is going to be a key player. We saw last week in Tampa how much this Packers offense struggled when the run game was bottled up. The offense had no flow whatsoever, and the Bucs’ defense pinned their ears back coming after Rodgers. This week, the Packers’ offensive line will be facing a Texans’ defense that has 16 sacks, the third-highest total in football.
If Williams can find success on the ground, which he should against this porous Houston run defense, he is going to make life easier for Rodgers and the Green Bay passing attack as well.
