Packers’ weekend injury report: 9 questionable while two go on IR
The Green Bay Packers placed Christian Kirksey and Allen Lazard on the injured reserve while Davante Adams and 8 others are questionable.
The action around the Green Bay Packers’ injury report keeps getting busier and busier, and not in a good way. Heading into their matchup against the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football they placed two players on the injured reserve and nine others are questionable.
After undergoing surgery on a core muscle this week, wide receiver Allen Lazard is out indefinitely. Today, he was unsurprisingly placed on injured reserve, meaning he’s on the shelf for at least three weeks. Starting inside linebacker Christian Kirksey was also placed on IR after suffering a pectoral injury against the New Orleans Saints.
That’s not all, that’s not all, the Packers also have nine players who are questionable.
Headlining that group is star wide receiver Davante Adams. Adams missed last week’s game with a hamstring injury and appears to be progressing in the right direction. However, with Lazard already out for an extended period of time and with a bye week waiting, Green Bay isn’t going to risk Adams’ long-term health just to win a game in October.
Kenny Clark is another big name whose status is up in the air for Monday night. The Packers’ best defensive lineman suffered a groin injury against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1 and hasn’t played since. However, he was a limited participant in practice all week and told the media he feels good.
Starting cornerback Jaire Alexander, outside linebackers Za’Darius Smith and Rashan Gary, punter JK Scott, and tight end Josiah Deguara are also listed as questionable. Marcedes Lewis is doubtful.
The Packers could lose a lot of depth and talent on defense if most or all of those players are out for Monday night. With their bye week waiting in Week 5, it appears it came at the right time, as they’re struggling with health big time.
After staying away from the injury bug a season ago, this will be a good test, as they try to stay undefeated early on this season. Let’s see if that extra day pays off and allows some of these guys to get their body right and get on the field against the Falcons.
