1. Falcons’ lack of a strong rushing game

The Packers’ biggest weakness this season has been their inability to stop the run, as they rank 29th by allowing 5.5 yards per rush. Part of it has to do with their lack of priority when it comes to stopping the run, as they often employ five defensive backs even in obvious rushing situations. Their defensive line also struggles at the point of attack, often getting pushed off the line of scrimmage.

Thankfully, Atlanta hasn’t looked very good in their run game, ranking just 19th with 4.1 yards per rush. Todd Gurley is their primary ball-carrier, and he’s rushed for a measly 197 yards on 49 carries this season (a four-yard per carry average). Furthermore, the Falcons don’t like to run the ball and prefer to air it out (playing right into Green Bay’s hands). This should be a plus matchup for the Packers’ run defense and an opportunity for them to build some momentum heading into their bye.
