Green Bay Packers’ injury updates heading into Week 2
A few key players were injured for the Green Bay Packers in their opening weekend victory. Here’s an update heading into Week 2.
The Green Bay Packers walked out of Week 1 with an impressive victory over their divisional rival the Minnesota Vikings. They weren’t unscathed, however, as a few key players suffered injuries throughout the game.
A couple of days removed from Sunday, we have more information about their injury status, providing clarity for what next week will look like. Still, it might be worth it for the Packers to seek outside help to shore up both of their offensive and defensive lines. Avoiding that rabbit hole, here are updates on the three big injuries the Packers suffered:
Lane Taylor:
Lane Taylor has been on a roller coaster ride over the last two seasons. After beginning 2019 as the starting left guard, he lost his job to Elgton Jenkins and proceeded to miss the rest of the season due to a torn pectoral muscle. He worked his way back, battled rumors of being released all offseason, agreed to a restructured contract and worked his tail off to earn his way as the starting right guard.
Unfortunately, he went down in a lot of pain against the Vikings during a fourth-quarter run play. Taylor’s right knee gave out, causing him to collapse to the turf and requiring he get carted off the field. Head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed Taylor is out for the season following that injury.
Lucas Patrick
The Packers received good news on the Lucas Patrick front. After starting the game at left guard, Patrick went down in the first half with a shoulder injury and didn’t return. Fortunately, the team learned it wasn’t serious and he should be probable for Week 2 against the Detroit Lions. That’s great news considering Taylor is out for the season and the former starting left guard Elgton Jenkins appears to have found a long-term home at right tackle.
Kenny Clark
The biggest name on this list, the Packers can’t afford to lose Kenny Clark for any significant amount of time. They are already underwhelmed on their defensive line and Clark has been a stud for some time now. Clark hurt his groin in the first half, and it’s unclear what his status will look like moving forward as groins can be fickle beasts. LaFleur commented, “I think you’ll find out later in the week with Kenny. I really don’t know where we’re at right now.” With Clark’s Week 2 status in question, the Packers only have three healthy defensive linemen on their 53-man roster in Tyler Lancaster, Dean Lowry and Kingsley Keke.
