Free Agency

Milwaukee doesn’t have a lot of money available in free agency which limits the pool of potential free-agent candidates. In a typical season, they’d have their non-taxpayer mid-level exception to use which would give them $10 million to offer. We’ll see how the NBA approaches that this season considering the massive loss of revenue.

Jeff Teague: Teague certainly falls in the category of “do something different” instead of an upgrade. He’s a tiny bit better three-point shooter (a career 35.6 percent three-point shooter to Bledsoe’s 33.6 percent career mark), but takes fewer attempts per game and isn’t nearly the same level of defender. Furthermore, he made $19 million last season and it would be tough for him to accept a massive pay cut to come to Milwaukee. This union is incredibly unlikely, but it’s worth mentioning considering Teague’s free-agent status.

Jordan Clarkson: Part of what the Bucks have been missing the last two seasons is a sparkplug off the bench. Sure, George Hill is sturdy and provides them with solid defense and floor-spacing, but he doesn’t have the same scoring punch someone like Clarkson brings to the table. As a combo guard, Clarkson would fit nicely in their second unit, as he wouldn’t be asked to handle the ball-handling duties exclusively and Milwaukee would be able to hide him on defense.

D.J. Augustin: One of the more popular options, especially after his good showing against the Bucks in the first round, Augustin is an interesting free agent option as a backup point for Milwaukee. He’ll be 33-years-old before next season starts (whenever that happens) which means his best days are behind him. However, he’s a sniper from downtown and is able to initiate enough offense to make him worth a short-term gamble for the Bucks. His price range also aligns perfectly with the money Milwaukee will have available.

Goran Dragic: Despite Dragic’s price range probably being too expensive for the Bucks and the likelihood he’ll stay with Miami, crazier things have happened. Dragic is still one of the better point guards in the NBA and he’d fit perfectly alongside Antetokounmpo as a floor-spacer, pick-and-roll ball-handler and shot creator. He should be at the top of the Bucks’ free agent list.

Fred VanVleet: Too expensive. Next.
