Green Bay Packers: Updated Roster Moves & Player Work Outs
By Paul Bretl
Green Bay Packers workout Justin Britt
Justin Britt was a second-round pick by the Seattle Seahawks in 2014, where he started a season at right tackle, then left guard, before cementing himself as the team’s starting center. From 2016 through 2019, Britt had taken 2,263 pass-blocking snaps and allowed only five sacks, five quarterback hits, and 54 total pressures.
He is, however, coming off an ACL injury after making 86 starts in 87 games over his career. Now, even though he was in for a workout, I don’t expect the Packers to sign Britt before Week 1. But rather, I see this as Gutey just checking in to see how Britt’s knee is doing, in case he’s needed down the road.
Green Bay Packers also workout DL Daylon Mack
Daylon Mack was a fifth-round pick out of Texas A&M – a former teammate of Kingsley Keke – by the Baltimore Ravens. He appeared in just one game last season but was unable to stick. And for a Packers team that could use some help inside against the run, Mack has the potential to provide them with a solid rotational player.
At A&M, he appeared in 47 games, recording 108 total tackles, 27 of which were for a loss, along with eight sacks. At 6’1″ – 341 pounds, Mack takes up space and has an explosive first step. For a closer look at Mack’s game, here is what Kyle Crabbs of The Draft Network had to say in his pre-draft scouting report:
"“Daylon Mack enjoyed a career revival over the course of the last nine months. Mack was an all-star success story at both Shrine and Senior Bowl week, his natural ability and urgent demeanor were likable qualities. Mack projects best as a 1T in an even front. Mack’s ability to anchor, but subsequently locate and chase the football, are pretty unique to a player of his stature, who can so easily win the point of attack thanks to leverage.”"
Mack is a very intriguing player, and given Green Bay’s need for help against the run along with the open roster spot that they have, this is a late addition that does make quite a bit of sense.
